It was a battle of the Derby County loanees yesterday at the Kassam Stadium as Jonathan Mitchell’s Oxford United took on Luke Thomas’ Coventry City in Sky Bet League One.

It is the first time the pair have faced each other, and it was Thomas who almost opened the scoring for the Sky Blues. He met a long through ball, took a touch but was thwarted by Mitchell who made a good save.

Coventry did take the lead on the hour mark through a deflected strike which Mitchell could not do anything about, whilst 10 minutes from time, they doubled their lead from the penalty spot.

Oxford did pull a goal back to reduce the arrears but it’s Thomas that has the bragging rights over Mitchell this time.

The only other Derby County player in action this week was goalkeeper Matthew Yates, however, his Gloucester City side fell to a 0-2 home defeat against Truro City in the National League South.

Kellan Gordon was an unused substitute for Lincoln City, whilst Callum Guy (Blackpool) and Alex Babos (Real Union) did not feature for their loan clubs this weekend.

Chris Martin (Hull City), Nick Blackman (Sporting Gijon) and Max Lowe (Aberdeen) did not play due to the international break.
