It was a dream 'second debut' for both Max Lowe and Kyle McAllister at the weekend as they both netted for their respective loan clubs.

McAllister, who re-joined St Mirren - the club he joined Derby from in January 2017 - on Friday, came on as a 55th minute substitute in their 3-2 Scottish Cup victory against Alloa Athletic.

At the time of his arrival into the action, they trailed 2-0 against their lower league opponents, however, his introduction sparked a revival.

They pulled the scoreline back to 2-2 and with only minutes remaining, McAllister found the bottom corner from the edge of the box to win the game for his new side on his return to the club.

It was, however, mixed fortunes for Lowe who did score on his return to the Dons on loan - but had to settle for a replay.

The full-back converted from close range to give Aberdeen the lead early into the game, however, Stenhousemuir equalised on 71 minutes to take the game to a replay following a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after their game, Lowe said: “I’ve come back to make new experiences and getting to one cup final was fantastic.

"That’s a target for us again this season and I can’t see why we can’t go one step further if we can win the replay.

“The squad’s got really strong and a lot of key players are back fit, which is massive for us. With the games coming thick and fast we’re going to need a big squad. We’ve got the squad to do well in the league and the cup, despite what happened today.”

Elsewhere, in the Championship, Chris Martin was denied in the final minute of the game as his Hull City side drew 2-2 with Aston Villa at Villa Park. His effort from close range was saved by Villa goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic as the Tigers had to settle for a point.

Alex Pearce, meanwhile, was an unused substitute for Millwall at the weekend as they drew 1-1 with promotion-chasing Middlesbrough.

In League One, midfielder George Thorne made his debut for Luton Town in a convincing 4-0 victory over Peterborough United.

He came on in the 69th minute with the Hatters already four goals to the good and he impressed. However, Luke Thomas played the full 90 minutes in Coventry City’s disappointing away defeat against Plymouth Argyle.

Meanwhile, young goalkeeper Matt Yates played the full 90 minutes for Hereford FC in their 2-2 draw against Nuneaton, whilst Nick Blackman came on as a late substitute for Sporting Gijon in their 2-0 victory over Alcoron.
